Tenacatita and Barra de Navidad
February 15 – March 9, 2025
We got an early morning start, departing La Cruz at daybreak. We motored in light winds until just offshore of Cabo Corrientes when the wind filled in from the northwest and we had a brisk downwind ride for the rest of the day and most of the night. We had to slow down as we neared Tenacatita in order to arrive in daylight. We set the anchor 24 hours after leaving La Cruz and enjoyed coffee in one of our favorite anchorages.

Tenacatita is one of our favorite stops on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. We enjoyed exploring the mangroves, a dinghy trip to the small town of La Manzanilla, and fun on the beach. Not to mention a small surf break paddle distance from the boat.

After 10 days in Tenacatita, we took the short sail down to Barra de Navidad. This is a fantastic small town about two hours south of Tenacatita. We met up with friends on Liahona who have just sold their boat and are moving to Thailand to pick up their new Seawind catamaran! Congratulations guys! Can’t wait for happy hour on SV Sanity. We also met up with Rio Salado, One World, Free Luff, and the new owners of Liahona. No stop in Barra would be complete without stuffed potatoes, tacos, pizza, bacon wrapped hot dogs, and flan. I was even able to surf every morning we were there. There is a good break in front of town with some great chest to head high conditions the days we were there.

Barra de Navidad is a small coastal village built around a lagoon and canals. We took our dinghy out one morning to explore the town from the water.

All too soon, it was time to say goodbye to our friends on Rio Salado and Liahona. We’re not sure when we’ll see them again next as our paths are diverging. Hopefully sooner than later. Speaking of diverging paths, our cruising friends on SV Sancerre just recently passed through the Panama Canal to enter the Caribbean. Congratulations on a huge milestone.

After leaving Barra, we had a beautiful sail back to Tenacatita where we are currently awaiting a weather window to head back north as we make our way towards the Sea of Cortez. Unfortunately no surf this time, but some pretty great sunsets.

Thanks for the update! Enjoy
Fantastic! So happy to see SilverGaters out and about! Thanks for sharing your sights and your journey.
The closest adventure Sally and I will be having is taking the auto train to Florida tomorrow. With luck I will document the adventure with audio on my iPhone. Smooth sailing to you guys! ⛵️⚓️
