La Cruz de Huanacaxtle

April 1 – 13, 2023

Our time in La Cruz was spent getting the boat ready to head back north to the Sea of Cortez. The list of chores included servicing the diesel engine, cleaning the bottom, deep cleaning the boat, changing the zincs, installing an accumulator pump in the fresh water system, provisioning food supplies and various other odds and ends. I took advantage of easy access to the airport in Puerto Vallarta to do a quick trip back to the US to reset my visa. Mexico issues 180 day tourist visas that get re-set when you leave and re-enter the country. I flew to Phoenix, spent the night in a hotel, and flew back the next morning. On arriving in Puerto Vallarta, I met Shelly on her return from Minnesota and we headed back to the marina in La Cruz. It was so good to finally have her back!

Around the Easter Holiday, Mexico celebrates Semana Santa which is one of the biggest parties of the year. It lasts two weeks and includes a carnival in the town square of La Cruz complete with rides, games, music, and delicious food.

Although it is convenient to get things done, the marina gets super hot in the afternoon and we had to find ways to beat the heat.

La Cruz was a great place to spend time this season and we will miss it.

Leaving La Cruz, we had a great sail to the Punta Mita anchorage where we spent one night. The next day we were off north, headed towards the Sea of Cortez. This trip will take us a while as we make our way up to Mazatlan and then await a good weather window to cross back over the sea towards Baja. We look forward to exploring the Sea of Cortez and meeting up with friends along the way.

Google calls the sea of Cortez one of the great diving spots and days it’s known as the Aquarium of the World. Enjoy it.
